About this property

Welcome to Yellow Point Lodge

Yellow Point Lodge is a resort hotel set on 185 acres of protected rainforest and nearly 2,000 feet of waterfront in Ladysmith, British Columbia. The property features rustic, woodsy quarters with views overlooking the ocean and surrounding rainforest. Operating since the 1930s, it offers a peaceful, natural retreat that appeals to visitors looking to disconnect and enjoy the outdoors.

Guests appreciate the laid-back atmosphere, complemented by home-cooked meals provided three times daily and a variety of included activities such as tennis, kayaking, and forest walks. Accommodations range from cabins to lodge rooms with basic but comfortable furnishings and clean shared facilities. The lodge’s communal spaces include a large hall with a fireplace, contributing to a friendly and welcoming environment frequently noted by repeat visitors.

The property offers practical amenities like Wi-Fi, free parking, beach access, and an airport shuttle, but does not feature a fitness center or pet accommodations. Breakfast is included, alongside bar services, and the lodge maintains a smoke-free policy. Check-in is from 3 PM and check-out by noon, supporting an easy daily schedule for guests.

Located just over 3 kilometers from the Ladysmith Bog Ecological Reserve, the lodge is well-positioned for exploring nearby attractions such as WildPlay Nanaimo’s canopy courses and Transfer Beach Park. Vancouver and Victoria airports are accessible by car in a few hours. While accommodations are simple and rustic, many reviews highlight the welcoming staff, quality food, and strong sense of community as key reasons guests return annually.

A hidden gem. It's no wonder it is so solidly booked for most of the year. Well worth it to be persistent and keep calling and checking in hope of a cancellation. The YPL triathlon of "Eat, sleep and read" is so rewarding. Unequalled location, super friendly staff (and fellow guests), and superb food.

I gave full stars for rooms even though they are basic and rustic. The lodge and area is so perfect and welcoming and feels so like home that full stars are appropriate. We love this place!

I got a chance to stay for 3 nights recently after a cancellation. My friends have been raving about the place for years as they are long time regulars. I definitely can understand why they enjoy going back every year. The location is majestic with over 800m (nearly 2,000 ft) of waterfront with probably about 75 - 100 acres of forest land. It takes almost an hour to walk the perimeter of the land. There is a main lodge, with perhaps a dozen or so cottages, ranging from very small ones on the beach, to large ones set back a bit. I stayed at the Victoria cottage which is a large one with 8 individual rooms and shared living room, kitchen area and amenities. The rooms were small, but adequate for sleeping, and had their own sink wash area inside, a surprise for such a small room. There are multiple individual toilets and showers for everyone to use. There is no AC, but the breeze kept it relatively cool except on one night at bedtime when it was quite warm. Bed was basic but comfortable. The lodge provides 3 meals a day included. The food is best described as comfort food. Good quality and adequate quantity and selection, but not gourmet. They do cater as much as possible to people with special diets. Love there home baked bread and cookies. It's definitely a laid back place, where you can do many activities from tennis to kayaking, biking and walking or just take it easy reading, relaxing, talking and enjoying the views. Everyone from staff to guests are friendly. I definitely hope to return next year if I can get in, as it's booked solidly with repeat customers.

Amazing location, wonderful attentive staff, food is good old fashion cooking (just like Grandma cooked). Love it and can't wait for next time!

Rustic and friendly; a favourite retreat place to be taken care of with great food, plentiful firewood, restful lodge, forest walks, beaches, ocean pool, seaside views, and live music dance parties on Saturdays!

We have stayed here for many years (in January is our regular yearly booking) we have tried several rooms in the lodge, several cabins and have settled on one of the cabins as our favorite. The rooms/cabins have a rustic homey feel, that is more than comfortable enough for our taste. Beds are very comfortable and the bathrooms are clean. The home cooked meals and desserts are wonderful and very plentiful. Cookies 3 times per day. Staff is so friendly and accommodating. Great amenities, the Hall of the great lodge has very comfortable chairs and a huge fireplace, there are hikes in the forest, beaches, kayaks, games etc and they are all part of it. Yellow point lodge has a spectacular view location on the point. Still the best part are the interesting people you meet and they come back for their regular getaway every year at the same time, we have made lifelong friends that we enjoy seeing at least once per year. All of this included for a very reasonable price per day, an amazing value. Btw to get in call and ask for temporary openings, then if you like it and the crowd, ask the reception to put you on the wait list for regular yearly visits, and when available you will get a call from the reception offering your re-bookable spot. If you want a quiet relaxing getaway with plenty of opportunities to read books and meet interesting people this is a great place.

Late Dec, 1997 I spent 3 days here. I stayed in one of the cabins. I totally loved everything about it! Food was amazing! I was alone and all the guests were fantastic! Richard and his wife were so kind! I will never forget that time. I strongly recommend it!

We didn't stay at the lodge as we live locally but we did come for lunch, as they offer lunch or dinner for non-guests, as long as you call ahead and check availability. We had been recommended this place by a couple of people and decided to check it out. For $15 each, we had an unlimited taco buffet. All food is cooked on site, has that "home-made" feel to it, and is delicious! You had to be quick for the dessert though, as that went quickly :) the views were beautiful no matter where you were on the property, and it was so peaceful. Thank you to Richard and your team for a great first visit, we will be back.
